Vin - check here for shin splint remedy.
If you have any weight loss ideas that I wouldn't have thought of - by all means email me. I'm back to 263 after a bad weekend. My goal is 250's by the end of the week but that will be tough after eating like shit over the weekend. Been doing cardio before work every day this week. Not lifting this week in deference to the bum shoulder which is feeling better but still has a twinge. I'm not throwing hard either as a result.

Re: Max Johnson's Diet/Training Log
Max,
You should try a variation of my workout for old guys that I posted on Mohr (similar to Westside). It is like westside but I avoid the real heavy stuff and keep the number of exercises down.
I am 44 and I bench once a week. Two speed sets and one heavy set (one speed set suffices but I prefer 2). For example, my chest workout will be 2 or 3 different exercises during the week (depending if I feel strong...no feel strong, no lift) that consist of bench one day, one day incline and one day dips.
I never thought I could make progress benching only once a week and in the past I could not...but doing the speed training and allowing time for recovery (again, only lift when you feel strong) has resulted in my bench climbing back to levels that I had in my younger days.
Before this regimine I used to do 3 heavy sets of bench twice a week and I was putting up 265 for 4. In a month and a half I am pushing 265 for 6 plus (creatine is the only supplement I use). I really think I am heading for double digits with this weight.
The great thing is my joints feel great and I am not fatigued for games. I am stinging the ball like never before. I feel so explosive. I wish I trained this way in my younger days...my shoulders would probably be so much better now.

Re: Max Johnson's Diet/Training Log
2 things were fun about last night. A) I borrowed somebody's 27 Fury and loved hitting with a round non-cracked Fury. Felt so much better with it. B) I hit lefty the last 2 times up. Even my lefty swing feels a little slower but not as much to the point where both bat speeds are similar now. I got up once and tried to hit it out but it was too short and it was a liner to the fence. Next time up went for a base hit and it was a seed to RF. I'll be trying the lefty again tonight at some point. It's far more fun hitting that way because it's not a challenge and it's not like I'm going through the boring motions of just guiding base hits around the field. Not that I'm automatic by any stretch but in league play against ASA league pitching with league defenders, I think I can carry a pretty good average if I was just trying to get on base every time up. I want to do more than that...I want to crush again! I don't even care if I'm still hitting singles...I want to hit balls through the 6 hole that have the potential to hurt people if they get in the way. Not bullshit choppers.
I haven't gone to the gym since the Friday before last (around 11 days or so) due to my shoulder. Felt much better last night compared to just a few days ago so maybe it's healing up and I didn't do anything permanent to it (again). I'm just throwing the blal pretty easy but it's responding well slowly but surely. What little speed I had has been gone for years. Now this year I have no power. Now I hurt my shoulder and I can't throw like I used to. Why do I still play this game again???
I ate like a fatass this weekend and was concerned when I hit the scale Monday morning but was pleased to find a gain of only 3 lbs up to 266. Was 263 by the time I got home from work. That inspired me to eat nothing all day but a turkey on whole wheat for lunch Monday. It paid off as I hit 259 after my AM cardio on Tuesday. Ate a bit more Tuesday but still ate very light (no dinner even though I was starving since I got home from Pawling around 11:45). I was 258.1 last night (digital scale). For some reason I was exhausted this AM and overslept the cardio so I pulled in at 258.0 this AM. Lost .1 lb while sleeping. Interesting. Anyway if I did the fucking cardio I would have cracked 257 which would have been exciting. I've been in the 250's around this time of year a couple of times in the last few years but I definitely have better body composition this time around. More muscle so the 258 is a better quality of 258. Unfortunately my knee just gets worse so I don't have the slight increase in quickness that I usually get when I lose a few lbs. I really have to try to work in a leg workout ASAP but I'm afraid it's going to ruin me for days since I haven't done one in years and years. I'm also afraid it might make the arthritic knee worse but then can it really get much worse without me cutting it off with a hatchet? I'm not so sure.
I'm taking this week off from the gym again though I'd like to try to work in a bi/tri workout so it's not 2 full weeks off and those excercises don't really stress my shoulder.

Re: was
Doing the light bat work is great, it trains the fast twitch muscles. But you need to do the heavy bat too, that trains the slow twitch muscles.
Just do the drill 3x per week, it takes 5 minutes to do it. I guarantee you will actually feel your bat speed improve and within a couple weeks you will never have that "slow bat" feeling again. The drill works.

Re: Max Johnson's Diet/Training Log
Thursday in Mam'k I started seeing a little more batspeed. Fri was even a little more. I still haven't beaten an OF yet but I did split them on a line drive which was fun. After 2 weeks of no lifting, it's coming back...slowly but surely. I also made a strong throw from the OF for the first time since I hurt my shoulder. It wasn't 100% but it was a credible throw. A week before, I could barely reach the IF without an arc on the throw.
I avoided lifting this weekend so I wouldn't push my luck on the shoulder. I'll start back either tomorrow or Tuesday.
Hit a low of 257 last week. Ate like a fatass as usual this weekend...gotta get back on the program tomorrow. It will be tougher with 20 lbs of leftovers from the Mother's Day BBQ but I'll have to get it done. I feel a little svelter and like not feeling like a pregnant fatass all the time so there's my motivation.

Re: Max Johnson's Diet/Training Log
I was 4-6 with 3 HR's last night in the Pawling double header and the last one almost hit the lights in LCF (using my hated EST). It's not HR's that I'm honestly after but rather bat speed. I finally weakened enough that I can swing a bat with some whip. Now let's hope it carries over to tonight (2 days in a row - hasn't happened yet all year). Admittedly it was cold and the ball was flying out (the wind was gusting straight out earlier in the night) but it feels good to hit a ball out there when a week or two ago I didn't think I'd be able to even reach the fence.

Been inconsistent with the cardio and diet. I've been very good with turning down the postgame brews though (other than last Fri night). Still weighed in at 260 this AM so I'm in a holding pattern. I have since lost 3.5 lbs today at work so I'm right about where I was in the heyday of this post a few scant weeks ago. Brutal fucking day at work.

I've never had the urge to gorge uncontrollably on food, and am seeking insight on the matter from experts like you and Chezz.
It's the same reason people watch shows like The Biggest Loser and Fat Camp.
